"Join My All-NEW Group of 'UNDERGROUND'  New Jersey
Jiu Jitsu Students Who Are Quietly Learning How To
Protect Themselves Using Only Their Bare Hands...
And Now YOU Can Too!"

Dear NJ Jiu Jitsu Friend,

What I'm about to say will undoubtedly "rattle a few cages" in the Jiu Jitsu community- but it will also change many lives for the better.

I'll tell you exactly how it may change your life in a moment, but before I do I must set the stage by explaining why I am so disgusted with what passes for 'Jiu Jitsu' in America today, especially what is being taught in some of the 'Mc Dojo karate schools' across the U.S.

Part of the reason why I am disgusted is because taking Jiu Jitsu lessons can truly be a powerful element in helping people learn how to defend themselves and live a healthier lifestyle. In fact, my approach to Jiu Jitsu gets people into incredible shape very fast, and I do it by teaching people how to grapple smoothly, safely, technically and with proper breathing mechanics.

Oh, yeah…and I don’t spend wasted time teaching you how to bow or meditate, or how to tie your belt or some long drawn out story about the philosophy of fighting. For one, it’s kinda’ boring and two…YOU PROBABLY DON’T WANT TO LEARN IT! You probably want to 'cut-to-the-chase' and learn some Jiu Jitsu!

I Feel Great And So Can YOU!

I have been practicing martial arts now for almost 20 years. I traveled around the world competing, training and learning from world-class martial art instructors. I have seen the best, trained with the best, been certified by the best -- yet, it wasn't until I forgot about everything I had learned about Jiu Jitsu before I truly discovered the "POWER" that Jiu Jitsu could provide.

Let me explain what I mean. But first, I think it's appropriate for me to introduce myself. My name is Jim Fortunato. I’m the owner of Fortunato Karate located in the Timberline Plaza in Sewell, NJ. You can visit my karate website at: www.FortunatoKarate.com. Maybe you or you’re child has taken karate lessons with me in the past. Or maybe you know someone who has. Anyway, I've been at this thing for a long time and I’ve been quietly practicing, teaching and re-developing a powerful system of Jiu Jitsu over the past 10 years.

Yes, I know, you’re probably thinking ‘Jiu Jitsu is Jiu Jitsu’ right - but before you throw the book at me, let me assure you that my system of Jiu Jitsu ain't like anything you've ever seen. It's because what I teach isn't just a bunch of random Jiu Jitsu moves. It's a systematic approach that uses a curriculum based teaching model that will give you a great workout and allow you to remember and retain the your Jiu Jitsu techniques so you can actually use them when grappling, competing or if you ever have to defend yourself.

The Jiu Jitsu techniques I teach aren’t what’s new…But the way I teach is what is truly different. In a sense, my system of teaching Jiu Jitsu is more about LEARNING than it is about Jiu Jitsu. It's about learning a solid Jiu Jitsu curriculum that involves discipline, focus, commitment and the right mindset to truly embrace the art of Jiu Jitsu.

That's why I call it a 'School of Jiu Jitsu'. Think about anything school you would enroll in...it would have a curriculum you would be required to learn, right! Well, that's basically what you get  when you enroll in the Fortunato School of Jiu Jitsu in Sewell, New Jersey. A solid curriculum that progresses as you progress.

Remember, as a martial art Black Belt, instructor and school owner, teaching people discipline, focus, dedication, commitment and follow through is what I do best.  So when you decide to enroll you will get all my years of professional experience at your disposal. I'm also happy to report that I have always taught my classes and will continue to teach my classes. YOU GET ME! I answer the phone, I reply back to emails and I TEACH! I DO NOT run my school like some of the 'McDojo's' where the owner is rarely around and hardly involved. This is what has allowed me to be able to bring my 'School of Jiu Jitsu' to a whole new level. In fact, the people who train with me tell me they really love it.

Modern Day Jiu Jitsu in America Does Little More Than
Give You Some Self-Defense!

Even though I’ve been doing Jiu Jitsu for over 10 years--I can assure you I don't sit around searching the internet for the latest fancy guard sweep or tricky choke hold (it's not that I don't stay on top of my game...it's just that most of these techniques can only be done by the best Jiu Jitsu athletes or in a sport Jiu Jitsu competition). That's what so many people studying Jiu Jitsu today are being taught - Sport Jiu Jitsu with the Gi. What's worse, their ability to really defend themself suffers because of it.

Look...I'm NOT against learning tricky, sport moves. But my School of Jiu Jitsu is totally different. My curriculum gives you functional techniques, high percentage moves, practical self defense, a totally clear and focused mindset of what you're learning and why. We do have Jiu Jitsu students who compete in tournaments in New Jersey and do very well. They win because they understand and have learned basic, high-percentage techniques!

Most People Struggle With Staying With Jiu Jitsu

Because They Have No One To MOTIVATE Them.

I Help You STAY MOTIVATED And Get You Into
Incredible Shape By Teaching You Jiu Jitsu !

I call my program a "School of Jiu Jitsu" because when you sign up and start lessons it means you must get down to business! You’ve gotta cut the excuses, show up for class and be willing to want to learn. My ”School of Jiu Jitsu“ seamlessly integrates the training techniques of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Folkstyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling, Russian Sambo, Judo and MMA. This creates an effective grappling program that is truly one of a kind (it’s not the wimpy stuff you see everywhere else in the karate Mc Dojo's)! I’ve also added some of my own discoveries and I guarantee you will leave your first class feeling re-energized and re-motivated!

A Little History Behind The Development Of My Jiu Jitsu Program!

I want you to know a couple things about me so that you understand how uniquely qualified I am to be able to offer you Jiu Jitsu lessons. After all, if I'm going to be YOUR instructor, it's important that you trust me.

Shortly after opening Fortunato Karate in July of 1996 I was introduced to the art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu at a school called Maxercise in Philadelphia. I trained under Steve Maxwell. Back then Royce Gracie would come and give seminars so I took advantage of this opportunity and took lessons with any of the Gracie's he would bring in.

In 1997 I attended a 10-Day Gracie Jiu Jitsu bootcamp with Helio Gracie, Rorion Gracie and Royce Gracie. At that camp Royce Gracie awarded me my Blue Belt. After that I felt I needed to really start showing my karate students the importance of ground fighting.

I also took an 8-hour Blue Belt test under Rickson Gracie. When I arrived at the test I asked Rickson if he would honor my Blue Belt previosly awarded to me by Royce. However, he felt it would be better for me to wear a White Belt and go through his test. Of course I accepted and 8-hours later I was awarded my 2nd Blue Belt under Rickson Gracie.

Now, some time between teaching, training and competing I was introduced to Robert Ferguson. He was a great grappling instructor who taught me how to effectively start grappling without the Gi and how to apply leg locks. In fact, it was after training with Robert Ferguson that I won the 1999 Naga Lightweight Championship.

The ironic thing was when I started training with Ferg I told him I had 2 Blue Belts. But since he was teaching me No-Gi grappling and leg locks he felt I should take his Blue Belt test which proved to be the harded test I took. Anyway, I was awarded my 3rd and final Blue Belt from Robert Ferguson. Later, he awarded me my Purple Belt.

I started training somewhat on my own for awhile and then got a phone call from a Bralizian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Joe Moreira in California. His name was Lonnie Phillips and apparantly this guy started training with Ferguson out in California but was moving to PA because of work. Ferguson gave him my number and told him to call me for training. So, the next thing you know I'm set up to do battle with a BJJ Black Belt from California. We had some epic battles that sometimes lasted for 25 minutes. Lonnie taught me a lot about grips and being tough. He called his Instructor and asked if he could award me my Brown Belt. So, that's a quick overview of how I've moved up the ranks.

I saw the benefits that Jiu Jitsu could give people as soon as I started learning it and during the past 10 years I've combined what I've learned into a functional curriculum.

Not knowing what to call what I do, I elected for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – but that name is used by Jiu Jitsu instructors far and wide. So the more I thought it over the more I liked the idea of a SCHOOL OF JIU JITSU…I thought it was the perfect name for a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other grappling arts.

Also, I believe that Jiu Jitsu is universal. It's not a Brazilian thing or even an Japanese thing. It's for everyone! As such, if it's going to be taught to Americans, it must be adapted and made American. That's why I've decided not to call it Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I just want to give people great Jiu Jitsu that works. That's my philosophy. And what I've done is keep track of the Jiu Jitsu moves and sequences that work the best - and that is all I teach. No need to waste time with anything that doesn't give you maximum results.

The 5 Key Elements of my SCHOOL OF JIU JITSU  And How They Work Together to Transform Your Mind and Body

Right now, what I want to do is give you an overview of the Fortunato School of
Jiu Jitsu and explain how and why it works. Here are the five key elements.

  1. Order and Sequence - When I speak of order and sequence, what I am talking about is our curriculum and how you will learn Jiu Jitsu in the right order. Basically what happens, is when you enroll you will start learning a progression of techniques that are arranged in an orderly manner. You will learn takedowns, guard passes, guard sweeps, mount escapes, self defense, cross body hold downs and of course a variety of easy to apply submissions. Keep in mind that most schools just teach a random group of movements that has absolutely no order to them. I don't know about you but I don't want to come to class a learn the latest tricky guard sweep from Brazil because chances are I aint' never gonna' use it anyway. Now, because of the way I structure things, every sequence of Jiu Jitsu techniques I teach will create a building effect. You will start off with a great foundation of solid Jiu Jitsu techniques and gradually progress toward more intermediate and advanced moves. Mark my words, after your first lesson you will see exactly what I mean.

  2. Deep Breathing - Everything I teach in Jiu Jitsu involves learning how and why to breath. This is one of the most overlooked aspect of Jiu Jitsu training but one of the most important to learn. The way I teach breathing is very different. I show you exactly where, when and how you should be breathing when training. This will show you how to conserve your energy and you will feel your body literally begin to "wake up" when you start applying these techniqeus. As you "wake up" you'll start to feel more powerful, more confident and be able to grappler longer because of these simple lessons of deep breathing. You will be tapping into your internal source of energy. And yes, you won't get as tired when grappling and you won't feel so exhausted after a workout. it truly is magnificent - and natural!

  3. Strength Building Exercise - The typical Jiu Jitsu class is filled with technical weaklings because they don't do the right exercises to build strength. Now, don't forget that Jiu Jitsu was originally designed to teach a smaller person how to defend themselves against a much larger attacker. And all I know is that more and more people are learning Jiu Jitsu so I've found out the hard way that when 2 people are technically equal the stronger opponent will always win. I'm a lightweight, so I've been on the receiving end of much bigger players and I know the importance of size and strength when technique is equal. So you've got 2 choices: Be the most technical Jiu Jitsu player in the world or combine your technique with strength. I'll show you the exact weight training program that I use that will chisel the fat off your body fast and make you so much stronger that other grapplers will be amazed at how strong you are.

  4. Nutrition for Athletes - When you go to a typical Jiu Jitsu class in America, you won't hear a lot of talk about the importance of good nutrition. If you do hear talk it's mostly about some crazy diet or supplement programs that are usually unnecessary, harmful or just plain dumb. I make it a point to give my students sound nutritional advice that "does your body good." If you ask me I'll give you a nutrition meal plan that I've designed just for Jiu Jitsu athletes. And you won't even feel like you're on a diet because you're not. You'll think you're just eating like an athlete eats. And this is as it should be...Jiu Jitsu, deep breathing, exercise and nutrition are all interconnected and interrelated. You get the complete package at our school of Jiu Jitsu.

  5. Winning Team Atmosphere - When you look at the truly happy, successful and grounded people in this world, you'll find that they didn't do it alone. The real successes are part of a winning team. A winning team isn't afraid to take on challenges. They understand that 'winning' doesn't always mean beating the other guy. It means 'being a player in the game called life'. It means respecting and helping your fellow teammates. It means being courageous and doing what's right. Yes, we all make mistakes sometimes, but we strive to make them right, instead of making excuses. When you enroll at the FORTUNATO SCHOOL OF JIU JITSU you will be part of our winning team! Be coached, trained and motivated by the best!

Welcome To a World Most People Don’t Dven Know Exists!

To be quite honest our school is full of ”No-Name“ Jiu Jitsu Players you’ve probably never heard about (unless you step out on the mat at my school).

These are mild-mannered, regular people …You’d bump into them around town (or maybe at work or at school) and never know they were New Jersey’s best Jiu Jitsu players armed with real-life, self defense skills.  Some of them are even high school kids who you would never guess could defend themselves against someone twice their age and size.

But...you won’t hear about their skills.

Not from them.

Not from anyone.

Because these 'Underground' New Jersey Jiu Jitsu players are happy to go about their business hidden safely in the shadows.  You see, these New Jersey Jiu Jitsu ”mystery men“ don’t go around looking for fights or bragging how tough they are because they don’t need to; nor do they want to. And they are quite content to remain in the shadows of Mantua Twp. and learn Jiu Jitsu ”in the dark“, while humbly keeping quiet and their self defense secrets very close to heart.

Well… eventually you will hear, (as word gets around town), watered-down versions of how good these guys are maybe months down the road.

But rarely, if ever, will you hear THEM talk about how good they really are.  They won’t talk about their hidden strength and they won’t reveal their Jiu Jitsu secrets.

Heck, you won’t even know they do Jiu Jitsu unless you ask.

And that’s exactly how they want it.

Now, you may be pretty familiar with some of the high-profile Jiu Jitsu, MMA and Grappling ”Stars“ out there. Some of them are quite humble and those are the one's I admire; but most make it a point to brag about their success.  You’ve probably heard them…and chances are, you’ve seen them popping up in Grappling magazines, SpikeTV and online jiu jitsu forums time and time again.

But I’m not talking about any of the ones that make a habit of bragging about how tough they are and how many people they can beat up. Rarely do you find the martial art traits of humility, respect and discipline in these guys.

The fact is, there are far more underground Jiu Jistu players (right here in Sewell, NJ) who prefer to stay out of the spotlight—and far away from the ”I’m tougher than you crowd.“  They’re happy raking in all the knowledge and Jiu Jitsu fighting techniques without making a blip on the radar.

I call them Jiu Jitsu 'Players' because they are in the game of life playing to win! I don't  just mean winning tournament (although some of them are champion tournament competitors.)

I mean they are the ones out in the real world! The real world of work, school and family where they practice loyalty and self-sacrifice everyday. These are guys I really respect because they come in with an attitude of humility and gratitude. They are willing to put in the hard work that is necessary to be successful.

Look, I've been on the ”inside“ of the Jiu Jitsu world for the last 10 years – I’ve heard more than my fair share of tough guy stories.  The most amazing part, is none of them operate in the ”how to help others“ mindset. So, I don’t care how tough someone thinks they are.

"My focus is on helping others learn the gentle art of Jiu Jitsu so there confidence, physical fitness and self defense skills grow!"

I can't remember how all of these Underground New Jersey Jiu Jitsu players found me. Some of them found me on the internet just like you. Ohters heard stories about my school and then some were just referred to me. But I can tell you they caught the vision of my teaching methodology and really want others to be  able to join our team–

Now to be quite honest, I've had my share of bad experiences when teaching others Jiu Jitus and I kinda' silently swore to keep everything I learned ”off the record“ but my attitude changed very quickly when I started to see the way most Jiu Jitsu schools where running their programs and the desire in the eyes of my current students to reallly want to build a stronger team.

I've struggled and wrestled with these thoughts and I’ve not publically opened my Jiu Jitsu classes to the community until now...

So here it is...
